For the eighth Architecture Exhibitions Weekend, seven institutions are once again showcasing the full spectrum of exhibitions on architecture, the city, and the environment. Their program targets a broad audience, welcoming professionals and interested laypeople alike. The number of participating institutions highlights—not least—the range of approaches to architectural discourse found in Berlin, a diversity arguably unique worldwide.
In line with their respective programs, the Aedes Architecture Forum and the Architektur Galerie Berlin present the work of contemporary architectural practices. In “Tribute: Architecture as a Form of Dialogue,” the Florence-based firm Archea Associati demonstrates that architecture rarely emerges in isolation. In “In Transformation,” the successful Danish firm Cobe illustrates the potential of adaptive reuse through seventeen projects. These two exhibitions are complemented by the open-air exhibition “Treffpunkt Bauwende: Blue-Green Building,” which transforms the site of the Federal Bauakademie Foundation into an experimental space for climate-resilient and livable environments.
The German Architecture Center (DAZ) and the Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) are addressing the contemporary relevance of historical projects. “Einfach gebaut – Über die Laubenganghäuser in Dessau-Törten” (DAZ) examines the only collectively realized architectural project of the historic Bauhaus that has survived to the present day, while “Berlin plant. Stunde Null” (n.b.k.) reconstructs and contextualizes the 1946 exhibition “Berlin plant – Erster Bericht” (Berlin Plans – First Report).
Meanwhile, the BDA Galerie and the Tchoban Foundation – Museum for Architectural Drawing are focusing on interdisciplinary themes. The exhibition “In Wirklichkeit unmöglich – Architekturen für die Bühne” (BDA Galerie) showcases the work of set designer Jan Pappelbaum, while “Kengo Kuma – The Flow of Lines through the Lens of Erieta Attali” juxtaposes drawings and photographs.
