2020 marks the 20th anniversary of Architektur Galerie Berlin. Over the years, the discourse on contemporary architecture has evolved in accordance with the current issues and trends. The gallery’s exhibitions have responded to and reflected this discourse in nuanced and compelling ways. With the constant availability of digital information and the communicative possibilities of social media, the exhibition format itself has also evolved considerably.
On this occasion under the title Exhibiting Contemporary Architecture Exhibitions, we would like to address the following questions together with guests:
– Status Quo + Outlook – What role do exhibitions play in the architectural discourse and how will they be positioned in the media in the future?
– Interpretation + Reception – What scope for interpretation do architectural exhibitions generate in the space between “copied” reality and abstracted idea?
– Transformation + Artefact – How can architecture be exhibited in a contemporary way and what influence do digital information and social media have on the selection of artefacts?
Parallel to this discussion series, the exhibition Storefront Images will show photographs by Jan Bitter. The series of photographs, taken over the course of ten years from the same point of view, not only illustrates the gallery’s immense spectrum of spatial interventions, but also shows their impact on the public space.
