In cities such as Berlin and Vienna, more schools are being built than ever before. The “Berlin School Construction Offensive” in particular represents an enormous opportunity with its investment of more than 5.5 billion euros by 2026. New schools reflect the needs of a growing city, but more importantly its development as a knowledge-based society. This then gives rise to important questions such as: How does space impact social equality? How does architecture influence the community and individuals? How will learning landscapes look in the future? Does each school need a specific solution? PPAG address these questions in their exhibition with their presentation of a “School About Schools,” on a scale of 1:1. Central issues on building contemporary educational facilities will be addressed at 19 stations based on projects designed by PPAG in recent years.

PPAG was founded in 1995 by Anna Popelka and Georg Poduschka in Vienna. Their work focuses on housing and educational facilities, and with more than 30 projects in the field of education to date the firm sees itself as part of a global laboratory. For PPAG, space is regarded as an immediate tool for teaching and learning. Following their completion of the Sonnwendviertel educational campus (Vienna) in 2014, PPAG have since begun construction on the Sauland secondary school (Norway), the Längenfeldgasse primary and vocational school (Vienna) and a private primary school on Karl-Holtz-Straße (Berlin).

The exhibition will be accompanied by the catalogue “PPAG architects – Von der neuen Schule” (PPAG architects – Of the new school).
